They were fantastic! I even got to have a bath in one of the rooms that was free. One of our guys also requested rice pudding for breakfast- it did help with the hill out of Eastgate! All in all a great B&B.

I can only echo what others have said. The welcome was great, the accommodation is excellent and the food etc is great as well. Would definitely recommend as a stop off point on the C2C. The breakfast will give you the energy you need for the climb out of Stanhope the next morning!!

What a cracking place to stay! Rooms are newly refurbished with showers to die for after a hard day in the saddle! The food is second to none and the portions are massive but the prices are sensible. We were well looked after by the owners and staff - who even got a barrel of local real ale in for us to enjoy! Don't book anywhere else but here!

Stayed at the pub last weekend 30th October-we were with 12 off road motobikers. Fantastic welcome and cracking service from all the staff. Rooms are really clean and tidy and the the food was excellent. Fantastic value for money and Gerry and Elaine deserve all the custom they can get. They clearly work hard and their focus is customer satisfaction.

Newcastle City Riders 15th Annual Charity Cycle Ride were fortunate enough to have enjoyed the comfort and hospitality afforded bt Elaine and Gerry at the Cross Keys last weekend. Evening meal and breakfast were great. Rooms, showers, bath, etc exceeded the expectation for a bike ride stopover. We would unanimously recommend it to anyone looking for a little bit of luxury en route.

Gerry and Elaine provide the very best in welcome, help and hospitality. On a second stay at the Cross Keys, this time with Newcastle City Riders (N.C.R.)on our annual charity cycle ride we took over the whole pub! Even had a guitar concert by one of our riders which the locals enjoyed. The rooms are still 'as new' the beds, linnen and towels fresh and clean. The Real Ale was ACE. The wholesome home-made soup, which arrived at the appointed time was followed by fresh fare and Elaine's F.E.B. set us all up for the day - it even included Black Pudding. Gerry provided local knowledge on how to avoid the busy main road when departing. We'll definately be back and I have no hesitation in recommending a stay at the Cross Keys. What a great place to stay and if you are doing the C2C you must book a night here. Gerry the Landlord went beyond the call of duty to help me when I encountered mechanical problems with the bike, his offer to help was first class and very much appreciated. The food prepared by Elaine and her team was excellent and of a high quality. The rooms were newly refurbished and the showers were the best I have come accross.

Stayed at the Eastgate on the final night of our C2C bike ride in Sept 2012. Gerry and Elaine could not have been more welcoming. Out bikes were stored in a locked shed round the back and then we were shown to our room. As a smoker (whoops, should I be admitting that:) I had presumed that being the only pub in the area they would sell cigarettes but they didn't. This was not a problem though as Gerry was actually out when I asked about being able to buy some therefore they just rang him up and asked him to buy me some whilst he was out and they were delivered to my room! The evening meal was great and breakfast and our pack-up was all you could ask for. The only small issues we had were a) the size of the beds as the friend I was riding with is over 6ft tall and therefore found the bed a little too small and the duvet didn't cover his feet & b) we were hoping for an early start but could not have breakfast until 8am. Oh well, other than that, we were more than happy with our stay and would be happy to recommend this place to anyone doing the C2C

Arrived at the Cross Keys after a long day over the hills, which started in Great Salkeld. Such a relief to arrive as it was Wet/Windy and V.cold what a difference from the sunburn the previous day! Received a warm welcome and got the bikes locked up in the secure storage. Our room was clean and warm and the shower was great. Evening meal was lovely. Same again at breakfast. Ordered packed lunches which were big enough to keep us going through the day and on the train back to Whitehaven. Would definitely recommend.

I loved staying here. Elaine and Gerry were so welcoming and it was lovely to sit in the pub after 4 to 5 hours of cycling. Our rooms were clean and looked like they had been recently refurbished. The food was great. My Aunt asked which meals were made on site and all of them were home made. We had between us a minced meat pie, a corned beef pie, a chilli con carne, a chicken curry and scampi. All heaarty meals and delicious. They had run out of lamb which was a real shame as I am sure that would have been delicious as well.
