Sustrans, in partnership
with other bodies such as Groundwork West Cumbria and some
of the local authorities along the length of the C2C have commissioned
a host of weird and wonderful artworks most notably on the
Whitehaven to Sheriffs Gate section (miles 1 to 9.7), the Consett
to Sunderland cycle route (miles 109 to 134.5) and the urban
area from Gateshead to Tynemouth (miles 122 to 136.5). Below
are the links to the artworks pages arranged so each section
has its own page for ease of viewing and also to speed up page

Art and the Travelling
Landscape - statement by SUSTRANS
'Artworks along the National
Cycle Network create memorable landmarks to encourage
travellers on their journey. They reflect the distinctive
character of the local landscape or make historical references
about the area and are carefully sited to provide
meeting and resting places. Looking more closely at the
passing environment will foster greater care and responsibility
for it and bring enjoyment along the way'
Thanks
to Sustrans, Alan Brannon, A.P. Davidson and John Holmes for
the use of photos.
