Summer 2004
What can you say about the C2C?
It was an awesome experience. Quite simply I can't wait to do it again.
There were so many high points.

Breathtaking scenery.
The climb up Whinlatter Pass shortly followed by
the exhilarating ascent through Whinlatter Forest (watch out for
the sharp bends!).
The Old Coach Road (hell on 2 wheels!).
The sense of achievement on reaching Penrith at the end of day one.
Day 2 hot and sunny and the unforgettable climb up to Hartside summit (even
managed the off road bit up to the cafe without bailing out!).

6 mile free wheel down to Garrigill (The pub in Garrigill serves a lovely pint
and I would recommend the giant Yorkshire pudding with Cumberland sausage!).
Quickly followed by what was the worst climb of the trip up to the summit above
Nenthead.
The drop into Nenthead (43mph).
The climb up to the Black Hill (highest point on the C2C).
Stayed in The Rookhope Inn 2nd night (friendly pub, no last orders, 6 pints
later!!).
Day 3 started with a push up the Rookhope Incline onto the Grouse Moor (regretting
the fry-up for breakfast) Grouse Moor is technical, wet and boggy, had horizontal
wind and rain in our faces.
The cafe at the start of the Waskerly Way was a godsend!
Reached Consett and my knees packed in, took 3 hours to get to Sunderland.
Got to Roker beach at 3.00pm day 3....fantastic!!!..........
