About Castleside
This village straddles the A68 and is close to Consett, high up on the Durham moors. It leads down into the former steel down via Moorside. It marks the entry from the wilderness into the great industrial hinterland that boomed throughout the industrial revolution before the smelters and pits closed in the 1980s and the area sadly lost much of its raison d'être.
