Charity and accommodation

February 23rd, 2012 by

Q: I’m getting people set to do the coast to coast with me preferably on the 15th May to raise money for the RVI Children’s Hospital in Newcastle after my daughter was admitted there for 4 years of her life, but sadly died the age of 4. Her name was Taylor Stallard from Hartlepool. I’m going to get sponsors to raise money and was just wondering if you could give me some help as I am new to this really. I have done a fair bit of research on this C2C and I am 100 % dedicated to doing it. I’ve been going out training for a few weeks now doing between 20 and 30 mile a day at an average of 8mph. I’m hoping to do 100 miles on 2 days running so that I can get a good idea of what it’s going to be like. I wanted to ask if there are any B&Bs that support groups. It’s just I’m organising this alone and the thought of sorting everybody’s accommodation out is daunting. If you can give me any advice or help at all I would be very grateful. Will Stallard, Hartlepool.

A: There are now so many groups doing the C2C for charity that I doubt whether you can get a deal on accommodation. If they do it for one cause, then they will feel obliged to do it for all. You will have to either bear the cost yourselves or use some of the money raised. The accommodation providers are indeed accommodating, but they still have a living to make. You should look into bunkhouse options, all of which are on the website and in the book.
