I was almost in tears at the end. What a incredible, emotional experience. My fifteen year old son accompanied me and I don’t know if I can ever be prouder of his achievement.
Oh, and it is a tough challenge. Don’t be fooled by the website!

Thanks Mark
As a bit of a joke I organised a team jersey presentation, Ben got the yellow, Thomas got the King of the Mountains and Tom got the Lantern Rouge. Me? well I was the judge. I have attached the pic.
Look forward to completing the quetionnaire for you and thanks for your help with the transport. Thomas is fine after his crash but it’s another job for “Uncle Don” to sort his bike out.

What a fantastic 2 days, with the 18th July being my birthday too! What a great birthday present I gave to myself!
The weather was spot on, nice and cool, not too hot, a tail wind which is always a nice addition. I left early on the Sunday at 07:20 and just rode. To my surprise I was the first one there and it was funny really, since they were just setting up the stalls/food to eat.
I had to wait around 2 hours until the road opened up since the ’10k Run’ was on, so at least I had a rest and got some photos taken and also got fed!
I’ve done the C2C once before – last year – and I did it over three days. The heat was 30 degrees+ in the middle of June, in that 2 weeks heatwave we had. This time much better!
Roll on next year’s event!
- Matthew Davies
Thanks so much. I had an amazing weekend – wish we were doing it all again this weekend!
-Maddy Leek
After performing terribly last year in the C2C Challenge, I decided to do two things this year. First, a bit of training. Second, rope in my mate Fit Kev and the trusty tandem.
We had a great weekend, storming along on Saturday, always 5 minutes ahead of the rain and completed the ride at Sunderland in time for our slap up Sunday Lunch.
Excellent food, a few bottles of wine and a lot of chatting on Saturday night in the marquee certainly helped us on our way.
Thanks to the organisers, the chef and everyone who helped us out. Hope the hangovers have subsided.

Fantastic weekend – not to be undertaken lightly!

Hi Mark
Very much enjoyed the event again. My family too, though they felt pretty challenged by the long days and short nights! A real sense of achievement for my teenagers.
I really enjoyed the balance between “self sufficiency” and support. Just right!

Thanks David. Glad you enjoyed it.
Am setting up a gallery of pix on the main C2C site (click here). Feel free to send in any your family took. I do hope you didn’t find it too rudimentary! I think we might need to hire better facilities next year as I gather there were big queues for the loos.
Best,
Mark
Hi Mark
Not too rudimentary at all. Queues for the loos were semi expected. Hygiene was better than last year. Catering and transport were much better, I appreciate the response to the feedback I heard and indeed sent.
Unfortunately we didn’t get any worthwhile photos: we were too focussed on “cracking on” following a few mechanicals on day 1.
Thanks to you and all the other back up that created an excellent environment and ethos to the even
Hi I know you’ve just finished the last c2c challenge, but do you have a date for next years as i would like to register?
-N. Laughton
Note from the editor: we are seriously looking at the end of May. Any thoughts?
