Blacketts Retreat at Newhouses, Allenheads, Northumberland NE47 9HX

Run by: Janine & Mike Swindale

Blacketts is Grade II listed and was built in 1788 by Sir Thomas Blackett (it used to be called Newhouses). Standing 1400 feet above sea level, it was originally a short row of cottages provided for workers in the Allenheads Leadmines. Warm and comfortable with fantastic views over the fells and open all year, if you're lucky you might see the resident red squirrel! There are three bedrooms with 5-6 beds available in two twin rooms (one of which can be a SuperKing at request) and 1 single/double room. The twin/SuperKing is en-suite, while the others share a bathroom. The owners live adjoining the bed and breakfast but you will have your own private sitting room and dining room to use with tea and coffee making facilities downstairs and in the bedrooms. There is a secure lockup and workshop facilities for your bikes. There is a pub and cafe in the village where meals are served and both are a short walk from your accommodation. Please note: Complimentary Therapy treatments are available on site, including post-exercise aromatherapy massage and hot stones treatments available from £20.

Rooms: 1S/D, 2T. B&B: £35-£40 (single supp applied). Pk lunch: from £4. On C2C route. Drying facilities. Secure lock-up.
