Frosterley & Wolsingham

Rookhope and Stanhope have proved so enormously popular as stopping off points before the final day’s cycling that the neighbouring village of Frosterley and the town of Wolsingham now wish to be considered as a stopping off point. With numbers on the route increasing every year there are accommodation bottlenecks so you might wish to look at the options here. As for getting back onto the route, you can either retrace your steps to Stanhope or take your life into your hands and cut up country to the A68, linking up with the C2C at Castleside. St Godric once lived in this Saxon settlement with Elric the Hermit, around 1120.

Frosterley has the excellent Black Bull pub (http://www.blackbullfrosterley.com/) which is justification alone for paying a visit.

And Wolsingham boasts the Buon Appetito Italian restaurant which is open when all else is closed and serves well executed, traditional and deeply filling fare at very reasonable prices.
